Rivermile 2017 Rampage

After several practices in our pool and around the Khayalethu house, we embarked on the annual Rivermile challenge hosted on 25 and 26 February 2017 by Zsports at Sundays river. A whole week’s preparation of kit, pool noodles, snack packs and various other arrangements culminated on Saturday morning as we left the house to participate in the Wimpy 5km fun run.

Our boys dominated the run – Estian came in 1st and Luyanda 2nd in the junior category; our youngest competitor being Avela [4 years old] whom melted several hearts when he reached the finish line. After having a quick snack, the boys braved the windy weather and participated in the foam party. On Sunday morning, it was time for our younger boys to demonstrate their swimming skills in the Wakaberry across the river race – all our boys did well in spite of a strong tide. Thank you to Terry Ranger and Luyanda for assisting our boys with the swim; thank you to Michael for always including our boys in events and thank you to Michelle [Zsports admin] for your patience during the entry process!

Moscow Circus

On 24 February 2017, our boys were treated [by the Sun International Boardwalk] to a show of the Moscow Circus visiting Port Elizabeth. Our boys and staff were completely speechless whilst watching the performance and each act was tremendously enjoyed. Afterwards the boys were further spoiled with a Spur meal, drink and toy. Thank you so much Peggy for having a special place in your heart for our boys!

Oliver House Developments

We are almost into an “Empty Nest” stage in Khayalethu Oliver House! We had farewells for both Thobela and Melvin during February. So proud of both of them. Thobela continues as petrol attendant at Lorraine Motors and lives locally and Melvin has started working at Samara Private Game Reserve in Graaff Reinet, his home town, and will be applying for a Tracker learnership starting in June. We wish them well. We continue with Sinethemba doing his learnership with Red Alert and Siphosethu who is working at KFC.
